At around 5:40 p.m. on Oct. 29, the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 500 block of South Raymond Avenue in regard to a call of a suspicious device underneath a truck in a U-Haul facility. Officers responded and located a device which was made to look like a bomb, Interim Police Chief Perez said.
The immediate area was evacuated and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Bomb Squad was summoned. A sweep of the area for any other devices was conducted and nothing was located. LASD Bomb Squad members were able to retrieve the device and render it safe around 9:05 p.m.
The investigation lead to the person who returned the shipping truck to the facility where it was found parked. That subject was identified as Theodore Bancarz, a Glendale, Calif. resident. Investigators contacted Bancarz at his residence and he was arrested for two misdemeanor drug warrants.
Interim Police Chief John E. Perez states, “We thank our neighboring public safety jurisdictions for their prompt assistance in this matter, along with cooperation of the public. Out of an abundance of caution we took appropriate measures to make sure public safety remained a top priority. Hopefully this quick arrest helps ease any concerns.”
