Monrovians Ready for Make a Difference Day

Make a Difference Day is set to take place Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon. The event is being coordinated by the Volunteer Center of the San Gabriel Valley, and the city expects hundreds of dedicated volunteers to complete a variety of community improvement projects throughout the City of Monrovia.

For those interested in participating, everyone will be gathering at Library Park (119 W. Palm Ave.). If you have questions about the event, contact Penny Arroyo at (626) 256-8187, or via email at penny@vcsgv.org.

A list of projects that the city will be involved with is outlined below:

  • Olive Avenue Planting
    • Planting 284 plants and mulching the area on Olive Avenue by Immaculate Conception Church.
  • Mulch and Clean-Up at Mary Wilcox Youth Center and Recreation Park
    • Volunteers will be mulching the area in front of the MWYC on Mountain Avenue.
    • Trash pick-up activities will be coordinated in the park and the city will hand out weeding landscaped areas.
  • Library Park Christmas Tree Fence
    • Volunteers will be installing a new fence around the Christmas tree located in Library Park.
  • Canyon Park Fireman’s Flat Picnic Table Repaint and Planting Native Plants
    • The Community Services Commission will be working on this project to update the tables at Fireman’s Flat in Canyon Park, while also coordinating the installation of various native plants throughout the area.
  • Kiwanis Park Clean Up
    • Working in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club, the city will be helping to plant lantana along the fence line at Kiwanis Park, as well as adding mulch and coordinating landscape maintenance activities
  • Community Center Parking Lot
    • Volunteers will be weeding, pruning, and mulching the parking lot planters at the Community Center.
  • Coordinate the Deployment of Trash Bins
    • The city is coordinating the deployment of trash bins for various projects throughout the city, and they will have bins placed at the following locations:
      • 518 Walnut.
      • 410 E. Cherry.
      • 336 W. Colorado.
      • 428 E. Los Angeles.
      • 726 S. California.
      • 1213 S. California.
      • 790 W. Chestnut.
  • Coordinate the Delivery of Mulch
    • The city is also coordinating the delivery of mulch to various locations throughout the city, including the Community Center, Kiwanis Park, MWYC, and Olive Avenue.
