Rio Hondo League play has not been kind to the Monrovia boys’ water polo team as its latest 11-9 loss to Temple City on Tuesday greatly lessened the team’s chances of making the playoffs.

The Wildcats put together a solid first half of the season, winning 11 of 16 nonleague matches. However, Monrovia’s crusade for a dream 2018 campaign took a nosedive when the team dropped its four games of league action.

Despite grinding out a 13-12 win over San Marino last week, the losing skid proved too much for the Wildcats to overcome. Tuesday’s loss to Temple City dropped their record to 1-5, ruining any chance of at least being a .500 team with only two games left on the schedule.

On a good note, Monrovia did have five different players score against Temple City, including four goals from junior Richie Martinez and two from junior Tyler Regan.

The Wildcats will host La Cañada in their penultimate game of the season on Tuesday and then will head out to South Pasadena for the Rio Hondo League finale on Wednesday.
