Staff from the City of Monrovia participated in the annual Read Across Monrovia event on Oct. 4. The program is coordinated by Monrovia Reads, a local non-profit organization. City staff had the opportunity to spend their morning reading in classes from preschool to fifth grade in the Monrovia Unified School District.
Canyon Park Naturalist Marlene Jimenez said, “Read Across Monrovia allowed me to connect with students in their comfort zone, so when they visit us at Canyon Park they feel safe. Overall, these interactions help students realize that we are all a part of [the] Monrovia community.”
Participating city staff included the chief of police, fire chief, assistant to the city clerk, park naturalists, police officers, firefighters, and more.
The Monrovia Public Library partners with Monrovia Reads in many different programs, including the relaunch of the Mobile Literacy Van at the beginning of 2018. For more information on the various programs offered by the library, visit the Monrovia Public Library online.
Read Across Monrovia gives the community the chance to share their favorite stories, inspiring young minds to value reading.
