Monrovia Fire & Rescue gathered for a department wide workshop last month for the purpose of strengthening their ethos and values within the organization. The fire department began by reviewing the culture of the department; then completed a series of exercises to build trust and solidify relationships amongst each other.
“We are fortunate to have such talented and values-driven employees,” said Fire Chief Brad Dover, “the purpose of the training was to capitalize on our strengths, ensuring we sustain the momentum as we look towards the future. We also took an honest look at where we can improve and created a road map to help us get there.”
As shifts are normally divided into three, it is extremely rare to have everyone together. The first-ever department wide training allowed for all firefighters and administrative personnel to work collaboratively.
“It’s not every day our whole organization gets an opportunity to gather and delve into a topic as important as the one covered in our training,” said Firefighter-Paramedic Hennessy Cabiles. “As each person shared their thoughts on our values it became evident that each person brought values and is of value to the organization.”
Facilitated by All American Leadership, a company specializing in helping organizations attain high performing cultures, the training was held at the Doubletree Hotel and paid for with funds provided by the California Firefighter Apprentice Program.
