The Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage will be hosting “Navigate Nepal,” a family friendly event that will explore the history, food, and art of the country of Nepal on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m, according to the City of Arcadia.

Nepal is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain peak in the world, and is the only country with a non-rectangular flag, according to the City of Arcadia.

Everest’s peak tops at about 29,035 feet. Additionally, wind speeds can reach up to 200 mph. And climbers can expect to burn about 20,000 calories on the initial summit climb and an average of about 10,000 calories a day is burned after the initial climb, according to the article “Conquering Everest: 60 facts about the world’s tallest mountain.”

The flag of Nepal is non-rectangular and is comprised of two triangles stacked on top of each other. Moreover, each triangular portion of the flag has two symbols: a moon with eight rays and a crescent on the bottom and a sun with twelve rays on the bottom. According to Britannica.com, “the symbols are associated with different dynasties and also express the hope that the country may have the same longevity as the sun and moon.”

In addition to history and fun facts about a country, food is a mainstay when it comes to identify and resonating with other cultures.

A popular everyday meal eaten by the people of Nepal is the Daal Bhat Tarkari. Daal is a soup and Tarkari is a curry, according to the article “Five Famous Nepali Food.” Daal contains lentils and spices and is served with Bhat, which is a boiled grain. Moreover, it is said to be eaten two times a day.
