Music has the ability to connect people from all different aspects of life. No matter where you come from, or your personal taste in music, somehow classical music always seems to be the root of all melodies. Do you agree? Pittance Chamber Music is presenting a series of concerts at the Barrett Hall in the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. The performance series will feature musicians of the LA Opera Orchestra in an intimate setting to give audiences the opportunity to connect with the artists on a much more personal level.

Pittance Chamber Music was created in 2013 by Artistic Director Lisa Sutton. These performances are collaborations designed to lure you closer to the artist behind the illustrious sound of classical music. Be sure to purchase a ticket, the experience will leave you wanting more.

This is the fifth anniversary season of the Pittance Chamber Music concert series and the lineup is extraordinary. Kicking off the series was“An Afternoon with John Walz and Friends” this past Sunday. John Walz is currently the lead cellist in the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. He previously held the same position for twenty years with the Long Beach Symphony. The concert consisted of Mr. Walz’s endless talent with the cello throughout the entire performance. With symphonic interpretations of Gioacchino Rossini, Richard Wagner and Johann Sebastian Bach, to name a few, these were exquisite ensembles that expressed finesse with every musical note. Mr. Walz is a Pasadena native and resides in Pasadena today.

The second concert of this season titled “Piano Quartets with Robert Thies” will be on Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. The program will include piano quartets by Mozart and Beethoven. Robert Thies is a concert pianist who was the first American pianist to win a Russian competition since Van Cliburn’s famed triumph in Moscow in 1958. He will be performing along with members of the Los Angeles Opera.

Third in the series will be “Evensong with Joshua Wheeker.” The concert will be a tribute to works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Johannes Brahms and will take place on March 31 at 7 p.m. Wheeker is a Domingo-Colburn-Stein artist at the Los Angeles Opera and will be performing along with colleagues from the LA Orchestra and pianist Paul Floyd.

No matter what part of the world your roots may come from, performances of this caliber will be experiences that will fulfill your appreciation for classical music and may leave you creating a classical music playlist. Single tickets are $35, seniors $20, and student rush tickets are $10 (at the door only). Tickets are available online at PittanceChamberMusic.org or at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music if tickets are still available.
