Are Kids in Monrovia Ready for a Fire?
Beginning on Oct. 8, Monrovia Fire & Rescue will be participating in the annual Fire Prevention Week. This year’s campaign, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere” emphasizes three basic steps to reduce the likelihood of having a fire and how to escape safely in the event of one.
As part of the campaign, Monrovia firefighters will be visiting fourth grade classrooms in the Monrovia Unified School District. Centered around the importance of situation awareness, students will be taught to identify potential fire hazards, recognize emergency alarms, and ensure that escape routes are easily accessible and free of clutter.
On Oct. 13, Monrovia Fire & Rescue will conclude the week with an open house. Station 101, located at 141 E. Lemon Ave., will be opening its doors to the general public between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monrovia Fire & Rescue will host a Junior Firefighter Challenge—a course designed for kids to simulate firefighter drills—as well as an Auto Extrication demonstration. The demonstration will include tools and procedures the department uses in order to extricate a patient from an automobile accident.
