Recently, the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden partnered with Westfield Santa Anita and Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. to provide a preview of the Moonlight Forest, its first-ever illuminated lantern art festival that combines many rich traditions of Asian culture. The preview at Westfield Santa Anita will provide the public with an enticing glimpse of what will be showcased at the LA Arboretum beginning in October. The partnership brings together the three organizations to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and promote the diverse cultures of the greater San Gabriel Valley.
“The LA Arboretum has deep roots throughout Los Angeles County, and we are thrilled to partner with our Westfield Santa Anita neighbors to offer a special preview of the magical Moonlight Forest Lantern Art Festival that the public will experience in our garden later this fall,” said Richard Schulhof, CEO. “We know that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important cultural holiday in the area, and we are very excited to celebrate with our community.”
The lanterns, designed by the skilled Sichuan province artisans of Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc., can be seen at Westfield Santa Anita in three different areas of the shopping complex. The lantern displays include playful pandas and the legendary story of “Chang’E Flying to the Moon.”
The lantern installations at Westfield Santa Anita will be on display through Oct.24, as a teaser of what’s to come at the LA Arboretum. By Oct. 26, Moonlight Forest will be on full display with more than 60 lanterns lighting up the LA Arboretum. Lanterns will depict exotic animals, shimmering flowers, soaring dragons, and of course pandas.
