Oktoberfest slated for the weekend

By Staff

Santa Anita’s 22-day Autumn Meet, which begins on Sept. 28, will run through Sunday, Nov. 4 and will include world class racing and an array of promotional offerings, including Santa Anita’s Oktoberfest, which will be staged on the track’s Grandstand apron the first two weekends, Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 6 and 7

In addition to four Grade I Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge races, the first 5,000 on-track fans at Santa Anita will be treated to a beautiful full color poster depicting some of the greatest Hall of Fame jockeys and trainers of all time on Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the track’s Paddock Gardens area.

Retired Hall of Famers Eddie Delahoussaye, Julie Krone, Laffit Pincay, Jr., Donald Pierce and Alex Solis will be joined by an array of active HOFers, including Kent Desormeaux, Mike Smith, Gary Stevens,  Neil Drysdale, Jerry Hollendorfer, Richard Mandella and Ron McAnally. Jockey Victor Espinoza’s status remains uncertain due to his recovery from injuries suffered in a training mishap this past July.

In an effort to attract new players, Santa Anita Park will begin offering a 20 cent Rainbow Pick Six wager on Sept. 28, opening day of its 22-day Autumn Meet. Patterned after the tremendously successful Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park, the 20 cent minimum wager enables players to cover many more horses per race than Santa Anita’s previous two dollar minimum, which has been a big key to its success at Gulfstream.

The prospect of a life-changing score will be in play immediately, as Santa Anita will guarantee a pair of one-day only Rainbow Pick Six jackpot pools, a $250,000 pool on opening day, and a $1 million jackpot pool on both Sept. 29 and Sept. 30.

Raise your steins and strap on your lederhosen for the grand return of Oktoberfest at Santa Anita this weekend.
