Do you serve on a Pasadena-area nonprofit board or have you ever considered board service? Jericho Road Pasadena is hosting an Effective Board Workshop on Sept. 19 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena. Registration is $45 per person, with a limit of three people from each nonprofit. You can register until Sept. 14 at effectiveboard2018.eventbrite.com.

Nonprofit boards provide governance, resource development and leadership, but many board members have never been taught the basic expectations of board service. This workshop will give attendees the orientation many wish they received before they joined a board. Nonprofits must be based in, or serve, the greater Pasadena area.

The workshop is taught by nonprofit consultants Mitch Dorger and Judy Plunkett. Dorger, principal at Dorger Consulting and former chief executive officer at the Tournament of Roses, brings to his consulting practice more than 40 years of work experience. That includes 20 years as the chief executive officer in organizations as large as 1,800 people with operating budgets up to $100 million. His work experience encompasses a wide range of functional areas, including program planning and budgeting, crisis management, government relations, event management, and sports management.

Judy Plunkett is a nonprofit consultant, having served as director of the Society of Fellows at The Huntington and executive director at the Arboretum Foundation. She is a life-long volunteer, board member and fundraiser, and has worked with organizations that focus on education, youth development, health, and the environment.

Pasadena and the surrounding areas are home to over 1700 nonprofits, which assist a community of approximately 150,000 people, 14 percent of whom are below the poverty level. Jericho Road Pasadena provides assistance to these nonprofits by matching skilled volunteers to meet nonprofits’ operational and strategic needs and providing workshops for nonprofit staff, boards and volunteers.
