Maranatha High School proudly launched their new state-of-the-art Technology Integration Learning Environment (TILE) Lab with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on the evening of August 27. Head of School Dr. Steven Sherman, Principal John Rouse, and Gala Co-Chairs Lisa Freer and Lisa Hall, cut the ribbon to officially open the new facility located in the school’s Academic Center.
“The TILE Lab provides an environment in which to engage students with the latest technologies and unleash their creative abilities,” shared Principal John Rouse. “By harnessing technology, our students can bring their ideas into the real world.”
Three new high-tech classroom spaces were created for the TILE Lab. The Coding/Robotics Center utilizes PC laptop computers for Computer Science classes and applications, including Coding and Robotics. The Creative/Design Center features 25 iMac workstations for graphic design and photography courses. And at the center of the new TILE Lab is the Maker Space, featuring seven 3D printers, a high-speed dual laser cutter, a virtual reality (VR) creation area, and a robotics competition field. The Maker Lab is a space for students to produce the work they create in the other two classrooms, as well as provide space for these new technologies to be utilized by courses across all disciplines.
Over $100,000 was raised by generous and supportive Maranatha families at the school’s Benefit Gala last March to help fund the construction of the TILE Lab. Along with other donations received, the new facility will provide opportunities for Maranatha students to prepare for careers of the future.
Head of School Dr. Sherman stated, “We are proud to offer our students the opportunity to involve state-of-the-art technologies into their educational experience. We are grateful to the many generous donors that made the TILE Lab a reality. This space is a big step into the technological future centered around our students’ learning and creativity.”
