Monrovia Wildcats Squeeze Past Arcadia In Double-OT Thriller
By Aaron Valdez
The Monrovia boys’ water polo team made its biggest statement in the young season as the Wildcats clawed their way to a 14-13 double-overtime victory over Arcadia on Tuesday.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the game was all but done and dusted with the Apaches having a sizable 12-7 lead over the Wildcats. Monrovia was on the verge of falling to 1-2 record on the season.
However, the Wildcats came alive and put together a furious comeback to even the game before the end of regulation. This sent the game into overtime where Monrovia and Arcadia continued to battle it out in this marquee grudge match.
The first overtime wasn’t enough to decide the winner where the score remained knotted at 13. Fortunately for Wildcats, they managed to complete the huge comeback when Colin Squire netted the game-winner with just seconds left on the clock.
Monrovia was able to bounce back in a big way in this contest after Burbank edged them out 11-10 last week. The Wildcats will now take their 2-1 record into the Ayala Tourney on Thursday.
