Arcadia Volleyball Downs Hoover, Extends Unbeaten Streak

It’s one thing to win a volleyball game.
But it’s another thing to do it multiple times in an absolutely dominant fashion, which is something the Arcadia girls’ volleyball team has become accustomed to these past couple of years.
The Apaches have opened their 2018 campaign with a 10-0-1 overall record while only dropping a total of three sets doing so. Their latest conquest on Tuesday came in a 3-0 dismantling of Hoover, which didn’t even hit the hour mark.
It seems Arcadia has picked up where it left off from last season where the team finished 22-7 but suffered a somewhat early exit in the second round of CIF. Second-year Head Coach Jennifer Estrada said her squad’s success stems from their experience and team chemistry.
“I think it’s just them staying together and competing as a team and having to make sure they are all at the same level,” Estrada said.
This team unity was put on full display in the win over Hoover as the Apaches established complete control right from the get-go. They performed progressively better with each passing set, taking the first set 25-11, the second set 25-8 and the third set 25-7.
Despite the strong outing, Estrada said she still wants her team to start out even more aggressively as she’s noticed they tend to come out a little sluggish.
“Usually, I don’t like the first game because it’s usually really slow and our girls are just getting their feet wet in the first seconds of the game,” Estrada said. “I think our passing gets more consistent, we get the flow of the game going a little bit better.”
The victory bumps the Apaches up to a 3-0 record in Pacific League play. Their first two wins were also in straight sets against Pasadena and Burbank.
Next up for Arcadia is a home match against Glendale on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
