Judy Chu, CA-27, and Planned Parenthood Advocates (@PPAdvocates), held a press conference Monday to call on all United States senators to reject the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. “The Trump Administration continues to attack women’s reproductive health care, and by nominating Judge Kavanaugh, is laying the groundwork to overturn Roe v. Wade – the 1973 decision that affirmed the right to access safe, legal abortion – and take away a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her life,” Palnned Parenthood Advocates stated.

“People throughout California are demanding that their constitutional rights be protected, including access to abortion. Planned Parenthood and partners are holding over 50 events nationwide to highlight the fact that public support for Roe v. Wade is at a record high of 72 percent, including 52 percent of Republicans. That is why Gallup polls show that public support for Judge Kavanaugh is lower than for any other Supreme Court nominee, since 1987,” states one Planned Parenthood handout.

Planned Parenthood executives say U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh would “wreak havoc” on abortion. “There’s no way to sugarcoat it: With this nomination, the constitutional right to access safe, legal abortion in this country is on the line,” said Dawn Laguens, vice president of Planned Parenthood.

On Monday morning, Planned Parenthood supporters along with Congresswoman Judy Chu held a rally in front of Pasadena City Hall to show their disdain for the Trump administration’s attack on the liberty of women and their right to choose as well as his [Trump’s] well documented dislike of the organization that has helped countless women with birth control, health issues, and abortion counseling.

Judy Chu said that if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed he could rule to overturn Roe v. Wade, and subsequently women could be criminalized for having an abortion.

Kavanaugh could, possibly, bring the Supreme Court to a conservative majority. He previously served on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for Washington D.C. His record includes enforcing restrictions on abortion and protecting religious liberty.

“We’re rallying outside of the Supreme Court to reject Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s #SCOTUS pick who could wreak havoc on our health, rights, and communities for generations to come,” Planned Parenthood Action tweeted last month.

Pro-choice groups such as Planned Parenthood are worried a conservative majority on the Supreme Court could reverse the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. “It’s clear our constitutional right to access abortion is on the line. You don’t even need to take our word for it,” Planned Parenthood wrote on Twitter.
