The triple digit temperature didn’t deter the community of Monrovia from showing its support for the men and women in blue, Tuesday evening.
On hand were Chief of Police Alan Sanvictores, Superior Court Judge Bruce Marrs along with many of the rank and file officers, detectives as well as police explorers, and city staff to help the community better understand the role officers play in the lives of Monrovians.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Nowhere is this more evident than in communities like Monrovia where just about everyone knows everyone.
The event is a great opportunity for citizens to stand together to promote crime awareness, drug awareness, and to meet the men and women of the Monrovia Police Department.
On Aug. 7, 2018, neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County joined forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 35th Annual “National Night Out”crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and local police agencies in each city. It involved more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. More than 35 million people were expected to participate in this year’s “America’s Night Out Against Crime” event.
National Night Out is a nationwide crime and drug prevention awareness campaign designed to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts. It strengthens neighborhood spirit and law enforcement-community partnership to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting crime.
Each year, residents in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with their neighbors and law enforcement.
