There are new and exciting things happening at the beautiful Edmund Blinn house, the official home of the Women’s City Club of Pasadena (WCC) since 1945. With hundreds of members and organizations, the WCC continues to strive in their vision of providing resources to enhance the community. The Club is also going through an innovation process which includes exciting things like, a new board of directors, a household wedding brand, and seasonal events such as the Pearl and Polka Dots Summer Tea happening this upcoming Sunday, Aug. 12. Right now seems to be the perfect time to join the Women’s City Club of Pasadena and be part of what appears to be a women’s club crusade happening in the Crown City.

I had the honor of meeting Rachimah “Rae” Magnuson, the new executive director of the Women’s City Club. As we sat by the beautifully painted glass tile fireplace located in the living room, Rae said that the WCC is a safe place for their members to come together. There are so many organizations that congregate as part of the Women’s City Club in the Blinn house that as Rae put it “ the world becomes small in this house.” We proceeded to explore the rest of the house together while Rae continued to share all of the exciting new things the club is experiencing.

The Club recently partnered with Peggy Kelley, who was voted Pasadena’s best event coordinator in 2017, to create a wedding brand. Wisteria Weddings offers a full service experience for your big day. From wedding photography, indoor and outdoor locations, to delicious catering . I find this to be a great opportunity to mention the Club also has a new chef, Pedro Simental who specializes in seasonal California fresh cuisine with Asian fusion. Wisteria Weddings at the Blinn House provides the local community an elegant intimate location with a Wisterian flare for the occasion.

Besides weddings there are more amazing events happening at this luxurious house sponsored by the Women’s City Club. For example, every first Thursday of the month the WCC hosts a Business Networking Happy Hour from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. As a member you  have the opportunity of meeting different types of organizations and business leaders in your community. This comes together with the Women’s Club business membership. The Club provides many resources to the fast growing number of women leading their own business. The Women’s City Club is currently on a six month seminar series hosted once a month. Next Level Success, is a series of speakers in various professional fields that focus on sharing current trends and professional insights in their particular business area of expertise. The next scheduled seminar will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Greg Borgardt, a certified public accountant, will be delivering insight on tax law reform.

In addition to all of these great business seminars, the WCC also hosts seasonal events such as the Pearls and Polka Dots Summer Tea. On Aug. 12 you can enjoy a fresh cup of tea and craft a pearl jewelry piece. The tea tasting will be presented by Charles & Company, a British-inspired organic tea brand. You will also be instructed on how to create a pearl jewelry piece by fashion designer Corrie Osuna.
