Approximately at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the Arcadia Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding gun shots fired at an apartment complex on the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard in Arcadia

According to Lt. Derrick Alfred from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), first responders found two gunshot victims in the alleyway near the parking area on the south side of the of the Sunset apartment complex at 816 Sunset Blvd., early Wednesday morning.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the second victim was rushed to the hospital where he later died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Detectives believe the man and woman victims were an estranged couple and initially believe the crime may be a murder-suicide.

Alfred said there were multiple gun shots and that the LASD believes a male in his 40s shot and killed the woman, also in her 40s, and then turned the gun on himself.

The weapon was removed at the scene and investigators were still on scene at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

No other details were immediately available.
