Local businesses participate in unique design competition

With Leadership Pasadena’s first public fundraiser in over 10 years kicking off Saturday evening, the event’s participants are busy gearing up for a unique tablescape design competition, Setting the Table: The Art of Conversation. At stake: a full-page color ad in DREAMS Magazine to be awarded to the winning designer as voted by guests at the event.

Under the artistic direction of Anthony Guthmiller, the competition kicks off on Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. at NOOR, located in The Paseo in historic downtown Pasadena. “I am so excited about this event,” said an enthusiastic Guthmiller. “The team at NOOR is amazing and the Sofia ballroom is beautiful. It’s the perfect backdrop for such a creative event and for the work of our amazing designers.”

The diverse roster of designers includes several prominent interior design professionals, food and gift boutique owners and managers, and community organizations. Helené Williamson, one of Leadership Pasadena’s volunteer designer liaisons, shared Guthmiller’s excitement. “For the past eight weeks, the designers have been buzzing with anticipation, not only as they develop their own unique concepts but to see the grand reveal of all the tablescapes at the event.”

While the designers have kept their tablescape themes under wraps, designer liaison Mary Spellman gave a glimpse of what event guests can expect. “Our designers come from a variety of backgrounds. Some are professionals in the event and design worlds while others are business owners and leaders of non-profits. I’m eager to see how they’ve interpreted the event theme and to see each of the tables juxtaposed with the others and the conversations that are ignited.” Fellow liaison Cheri Washington added, “I’m looking forward to seeing the exceptional creations of the diverse group of designers we have participating in this event.”

In addition to the tablescape competition, Saturday’s event features a complimentary wine bar hosted by the historic San Antonio Winery and a small bites buffet. Guests of the VIP reception will be treated to a light supper with desserts from some of the area’s favorite bakeries. The conversation continues with an online auction of more than 50 unique items and experiences.
