At its regular meeting, the Monrovia City Council voted to approve a Senior Nutrition Program for this year. Serenity Care Health (SCH) will be providing the meals for the program that should begin this September according to the city staff.

SCH already provides the food for the Meals on Wheels Program from the Volunteer Center. This program would add a lunch to the weekly programs of the city’s two senior organizations: New Horizons that meets on Tuesdays and The Gad-A-Bouts that meet every Wednesday.

The cost for the meals will be $5.25 per meal with a suggested donation from the seniors of $1 per meal. This would be a voluntary donation and not a set cost.

While the city was not able to obtain funding for this program for this year from the Los Angeles County Community Senior Services program, the staff report from the city indicated that the city will apply for these funds starting in 2020 when the next grant cycle begins. The City has requested that Monrovia be placed on the contact list for this program.
