Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Awards Gala
Beacon Media News’ CEO sworn in as one of the Board of Directors

The setting for the inauguration gala was the elaborate Langham Hotel last Friday night. Hundreds of guests placed bids on the silent auction items while others enjoyed cocktails and canapés on the patio prior to dinner and the awards ceremony.
A “special recognition” honored Anderson Business Technology for 100 years of continuous Pasadena Chamber membership. This company is the very first to reach that milestone. Don Anderson accepted the award. Don is the founder’s son and father of current ABT President David Anderson.
The Bill Bogaard Scholarship was presented to Maya Hinton.
The changing of the guard, so to speak, from last year’s Chair, Robin McCarthy, to 2018-19 Chair, Karl Bird, was perhaps one of the highlights of the night. Katherine Barger’s field representative Christian Daly, who bears an uncanny resemblance to a younger Barak Obama, literally stole the show when he channeled the former president’s voice to honor the outgoing McCarthy. “We miss you,” someone quipped as Daly did his best Obama impersonation, all while keeping a straight face as he thanked the outgoing Chamber Chair. Daly’s presentation received riotous applause and a few standing ovations.
Later in the program, the new Board of Directors was sworn in, including Jesse Dillon, CEO of Beacon Media News, publisher of Arcadia Weekly, Monrovia Weekly, Pasadena Independent and Sierra Madre Weekly.
