After parting ways with Head Coach Jerry Chou, the Monrovia football program was sure to be facing a summer filled with uncertainty. However, the hiring of new Head Coach Chris Williams brings a glimmer of hope to a team that has come up short in recent seasons.
Aside from the coaching change, Monrovia football was also dropped from Division 7 to Division 9. This CIF-wide division shakeup was based on how the schools have performed in the past couple of years.
Last season, the Wildcats lost all seven of their non-league contests but went undefeated in the Rio Hondo League (4-0), earning them the title and playoff berth.
Despite the somewhat successful season, this was the first time Monrovia had a losing record since 2005 as the Wildcats were quickly disposed of by Yorba Linda in the first round of the playoffs.
Williams was at Baldwin Park’s helm for two seasons before coming over to Monrovia where it’s safe to say that he expects no less than a CIF championship. Summer practices have already begun for the Wildcats as of June 11.
