The Wildcats of the Monrovia golf team teed off their 2018 season last week and are optimistic they can make some waves in the Rio Hondo League this year.

Entering his 12th year as head coach, former golf professional Reid Davis will lead his team into another promising season. Despite golf not being as popular some of the other sports on campus, Davis said it’s a game that can be played for a longer time being that it’s not as physically strenuous.

In seasons past, Monrovia’s roster has always been coed but this year, the team is a little shorthanded with only seven boy players. Historically, no Wildcat has qualified past the Rio Hondo League Championships but Davis believes the team is due for a breakthrough really soon.

The Wildcats opened their season March 14 against Azusa High School where they fell a little short at the Azusa Greens Country Club. The first league match came against Temple City but had to be postponed due to last week’s rainy conditions.

Monrovia will return to the links Thursday for a meeting with the South Pasadena Tigers.
