Here come the LimeBikes! Saturday, March 17th is the launch date for Monrovia’s new LimeBike program. The event will take place at Library Park beginning at 9 a.m. with some LimeBike Facts and Rules of the Road (like helmet laws and no riding on sidewalks in Old Town). Then at 10 a.m. the green bikers will join their brother and sister cyclists and begin the Inaugural LimeBike Ride. This program sounds just crazy enough to work here in our community: locate a bike on your LimeBike app, get a code and unlock it, then ride anywhere you like. I mean it – ANYWHERE! The really crazy part is that you can leave the bike (almost) anywhere you like, too. P.S. — A note from your Old Town Monrovia business owners: Please don’t ride your bikes on the sidewalks (you might just mow down a friend…), and please be careful where you leave your bikes. We all thank you!
The lime green strips you’ve been seeing around Old Town should by now all have bikes racks sitting on them, again thanks to the new LimeBike program. One more giant plus of this program is that the messy breezeway/alley between Merengue and Paridis (500 block Myrtle, west side) will be cleaned up, repaved, with the end result being one or two missing trees and fewer landing spots for tossed trash. Thank you, Public Works!
I dropped in to talk to our Community Development Department this morning checking on the progress of a few new proposed Old Town businesses. We’ve been talking a lot about Basin 141 which is coming to the southwest corner of Myrtle and Lime, and it looks like the earliest they will be open is sometime in May. They need to appear before the Planning Commission for operating approvals and also before DRC (Design and Review) for signage, etc. Right now, I don’t see them on this month’s calendar. After approvals from DRC we will see their new signage, which, if it’s anything like their Montrose site, should be a beautiful addition to Old Town.
It looks like Frooza has postponed their soft opening for just a bit longer. Their Face Book page refers to a couple of minor setbacks. (But at least now I don’t have to apologize for not making it in last Monday…). There is a sign in the window that says “Now Hiring,” so maybe that’s the setback. Anyway, the owners are lovely people – extremely friendly and extremely Old Town. We’re gonna love ‘em!
Wine Walk, Wine Walk, Wine Walk – that’s just about all we’re hearing in Old Town these days. It’s coming up on April 21st (6-9 p.m.) and it sounds like it’s going to be even better than last August. There’s a pre-event meeting for merchant participants on April 18th at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center – that’s where we get our wine and our pep talk, etc. I’m having fun already! Oh, and by the way, the Wine Walk tickets are $40 each and are available at www.MonroviaWineWalk.com right now!
