Wildfire Preparedness Class set for May 5th

The time to prepare for a wildfire is before the fire starts burning. That means the time to prepare is now according to the Monrovia Fire Department. As we have seen in the past few months preparedness makes all the difference is fighting wildfires. The preparedness class will be held on May 5th from 11 am to 2 pm in the Kay Dalton room at the Monrovia Community Center, 119 West Palm.
Firefighters from Monrovia were among the thousands of firefighters throughout the state who battled the fires that destroyed over 10,000 structures last year alone. While a quick and effective response to the two wild land urban interface (WUI) fires that occurred in Monrovia last December prevented them from spreading, luck was also involved in that the units to fight those fires were available and responded quickly, and the wind co-operated with the firefighting.
The threat of fire in this community is still great. California has no fire season any longer; fires can occur at any time given the drought conditions that still exist. Now is the time to learn what individuals can do. Personnel at the Monrovia Fire Department have prepared a class to reach residents ways they can assess the fire vulnerability of their own homes.
Additionally, options and possible solutions to help improve the chances your home will survive the next wildfire will also be presented. Some of those who responded to the fires that raged last year will be participating to provide first-hand accounts of what they saw during the recent wildfires including what they learned that might help residents give their homes the best chance of surviving the next big burn.
