On March 10th the Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) will hold a block party at the Second Baptist Church from 11 am to 2 pm. The church is located at 925 South Shamrock Avenue.
The purpose of these MAP Block Parties is to bring people together in a common area where they can learn more about city services. This particular block party will feature one special event The Art in Public Places program will be debuting a new program called Neighborhood Treasures will the unveiling of the first tribute.
The first Neighborhood Treasure is a celebration of the impact of Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth. A plaque in his honor will be unveiled in front of the church as a part of the block party. Col. Allensworth was the first pastor of Second Baptist Church, serving there for two years before going on to establish the community of Allensworth in the Central Valley, a community founded, financed and governed by African American.
