South Pasadena Falls to La Canada for Second Time
By Spencer Stueve
The season is winding down for the South Pasadena Tigers boys basketball team. With just an 11-14 overall record and 3-5 record in league play, the season has undoubtedly been frustrating, and such was the case when the Tigers took on the La Canada Spartans last week.
The Spartans are one of the top teams in the Rio Hondo League, and though the Tigers were considerable underdogs, they were able to make a spirited comeback after trailing early, but still fell short in the end.
The Spartans used their size advantage early on, pounding the Tigers in the paint, and dominating on the boards. At the end of the 1st quarter, it was all Spartans, leading 19-6. In the 2nd quarter, South Pas seemed to find their way. They were the more aggressive team on both ends, and cut the lead to 19-15, but La Canada finished the half on a 5-0 run to take a 24-15 lead into the break.
The 2nd half was much of the same, and though South Pas was able to rally and take the lead at one point, La Canada also responded, and ultimately closed out the game on top, 47-39.
