Parson’s Nose Theater (PNT), the acclaimed classical comedy theater company, continues their 2017-18 season with Molière’s comedy The Too Learned Ladies, opening Saturday, February 10th. This is the world-premiere of a new 70-minute adaptation by Artistic Director, Lance Davis. “We will define wit! We will decide what is humorous!”

“Fakery appears in every culture, in every era”, says PNT Producing Director Lance Davis, “On the one hand we love the ‘rascal’ who lives by his wits, on the other we live in fear of the villain who robs us blind under our very noses. In Les Femmes Savantes – The Too Learned Ladies in my translation – Molière pokes fun at our pathetic willingness to be duped. Philaminte Parnell’s desperate need to gain acceptance in Paris intellectual society puts her under the spell of the charlatan Professor Trissotin, who plays her and her ‘sisters’ like a harp, endangering the happiness of her own daughter.

“Molière’s short, sharp satire of Paris society is especially relevant today, when we’re all too eager to run blindly down the path to our own undoing. Again, a classic written in 1672 speaks to us, makes us think, and laugh at our own weakness.”

The cast of The Too Learned Ladies includes Dorothy Brooks, James Calvert, Lance Davis, John Rafter Lee, Frazier Perez-Yadon, Paul Perri, Jill Rogosheske, Kyla Schoer, and Hannah Mae Sturges. Davis also wrote the adaptation and is directing.
