Jesse Dillon, CEO of the publisher of Arcadia Weekly, Monrovia Weekly and Pasadena Independent, recently participated in an educational event hosted by Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Pasadena Unified School District. The event centered on the growth of high school participants who were eager to learn interviewing and resume techniques.

Every year the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Pasadena Unified School District, successfully prepare academy students for the Chamber’s Summer Internship Program by providing resume reviews, mentoring and mock interviews. CEO of Beacon Media News Jesse Dillon mentored students enrolled in the Business & Entrepreneurship Academy at John Muir High School.

In advance of the event, students have an opportunity to read professional bios on each mentor and select the top three they wish to meet. During the speed mentoring segment, students sat with professionals for ten minutes – asking how they achieved their goals and learning more about what they do for a living.

After two rounds of speed mentoring, students met a third mentor to engage in a mock interview followed by a resume review. Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and PUSD have found this to be extremely helpful in preparing students in advance for their internship interviews happening in spring.

All PUSD juniors enrolled in academies have access to a high-quality summer internships in alignment with their interests through the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Most internships start the second week of June and conclude by mid-August.
