South Pasadena Basketball Falls in Game Against La Canada
By Spencer Stueve
When the South Pasadena High School Tigers took on the La Canada High School Spartans last Friday, they knew they had a challenge on their hands. The Spartans are a strong team, and sported a 13-8 record coming into the game. The Tigers were just 10-10 and needed to play well just to stick around into the 2nd half.
La Canada was motivated for another reason. Head Coach Tom Hofman was sitting at 699 career wins, and with a chance to get to 700, the Spartans played near flawless basketball.
At the end of the 1st quarter, the final outcome was no longer in doubt. The Spartans jumped out to a 31-10 lead after one. They hit eight three pointers in the quarter, including four by Ryan Graves. The Spartans slowed down a bit in the 2nd quarter, and the Tigers tried to claw their way back, cutting the lead from 21 to 14 at the break.
The 2nd half belonged to the Spartans again, and when the final seconds ticked off on Coach Hofman’s 700th win, the final score was 82-55. South Pasadena continues league play this week with games at Blair High School and at Monrovia.
