Pasadena Firefighters Salute the procession for fallen firefighter Cory Iverson Sunday- Photo by Jaime Nicholson

A Go Fund Me Page has already raised over $500,000

The procession for Cory Iverson, a 32-year-old Cal Fire engineer from Escondido, began Sunday morning and passed through the 101 Freeway across Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange counties.

An autopsy on the firefighter killed in the massive Thomas Fire — which has burned over 400 square miles — revealed his cause of death to be thermal injuries and smoke inhalation, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office said Saturday.

Cory Iverson, 32, was a Cal Fire engineer at the agency’s San Diego unit and was working with his strike team when he died. Iverson’s wife is expecting their second child, another daughter.

Thousands of firefighters and other officers saluted Iverson as his body was driven from Fillmore to San Diego.

“We are humbled by the outpouring of support along the route from the public and from our public safety partners,” Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott said in a tweet.
