Work on the roads and utilities will result in delays and some road closures in several areas in Monrovia.  According to this week’s City Managers Update, residents should expect to encounter this work in the following areas

-The intersection of Hillcrest Blvd. and Mauna Loa Dr. This work began last Monday, Nov. 20.  The new water distribution pipeline (part of Monrovia Renewal) was installed on Mauna Loa between Hillcrest Blvd. and Foothill Blvd.  Now they are working to connect the new pipeline to the water system.  This will require the intersection at Hillcrest Blvd. and Mauna Loa Dr. to be excavated so that the new pipeline can be connected to the existing main on Hillcrest Blvd.  This excavation work may result in the need to close the streets in this area intermittently.  The work should be completed this week.  Road closures will be determined based on the type of work that is taking place and the necessary equipment.  People are encouraged to avoid this area and detours will be posted to direct motorists around the area.  Message boards have been placed in the area to increase awareness of the pending work.

-El Nido Ave., between Foothill Blvd. and Hillcrest Blvd.  This week California Gas Company began relocating approximately 150 feet of gas pipeline and two customer service lines to deeper depths in the street and out of the way of the planned road work.  This work will take place along El Nido Ave. at the intersection of West Foothill Blvd.  The gas company does not anticipate the need to close Foothill, but advice motorist to avoid the area.  They anticipate the as line work will be done by Monday, Dec. 4.  When this work is done, City crews will begin the planned roadway construction.

-Foothill Blvd. at Acacia Ave. and at Melrose.  The work began yesterday by Sully-Miller Construction Company that will be replacing concrete panels on Foothill Blvd. that were removed during the recent sewer improvements.  The work will require crews to narrow portions of Foothill Blvd. to one travel lane in either direction while the concrete is placed and allowed to cure and set.  This work should be done by today, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017.  Message boards were placed on Foothill Blvd. to warn motorists of the upcoming work and to expect delays.
