The merchants in Old Town Monrovia are getting into the holiday season in many ways, starting this week.  On Friday, Santa will arrive in the Old Town (according to his elves, he can often be found wandering up and down Myrtle Avenue – check out the Dollmakers Kattywompas – Santa loves toy stores).

Friday also showcases the Fire Department’s Spark of Love toy drive.  It is time to fill the fire engine with new unwrapped toys.  All the toys collected will go to needy children in the local community.  The engine will be in front of Music Studio Grill (formerly the Krikorian Theatre) on Myrtle Avenue.  It will be there on both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday is also Small Business Saturday with prizes being given out all day throughout Old Town.

The following weekend sees the beginning of the Breakfasts with Santa, the first will be at Jake’s Roadhouse at 9 a.m. on Dec. 2.  They will also host a breakfast on Dec. 9 at the same time.  Peach Café will also hold a breakfast on the Dec. 9, but at 8 a.m.  The same day there will be breakfasts at Oh Mulberry at 10 a.m. and at Rudy’s at 11 a.m.

The next breakfasts will be on Saturday Dec. 16 at 8 a.m. at Peach Cade and 9 am at the Monrovia.  The final Santa Breakfasts will be on the 23, again at 9 a.m. at Jake’s and 11 a.m. at Rudy’s.  This is a great way to introduce the children to Santa Claus.  Sign up for the breakfast in advance at each of the participating restaurants.

The Old Town merchants are also sponsoring horse drawn carriage rides on Sundays and Thursdays. The Sundays will be Dec. 3, 10 and 17 from 3-6 p.m. and on Thursdays, Dec. 14 and 21 from 5-8 p.m.

Throughout the festive season, carolers will also be strolling through Old Town.  There will also be live music thorough the month.  And if music is your favorite part of the season, there will be a Holiday Sing Along in the 400 block of Myrtle on Dec. 15 starting at 8:30 p.m.

Every Saturday in December leading up to Christmas will feature free gift wrapping from 1-4 p.m.  Ask your favorite Old Town Merchant for details.  And there will be a Secret Santa throughout the month, but it’s a secret.
