The South Pasadena Arts Council Launches ‘Create Our Own Masterpieces III’ Preview Celebration
The Final Phase of its Popular Box Art Project is Now Open to the Public
The South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC) invites the public to a “Create Our Own Masterpieces III” celebration, a ticketed preview party launching the final phase of SPARC’s enthusiastically received utility Box Art Project, to be held at a private home in South Pasadena on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
The 10 new artists selected and commissioned to paint the last of the city’s 30 traffic signal boxes will unveil their designs at the event, which will include entertainment by the Jazz Sawyer Trio, food generously provided by Crossings Restaurant, drink, a pie bar, a raffle, and Box Art sponsorship opportunities.
In collaboration with the City of South Pasadena, SPARC’s Box Art Project began in 2015, transforming the city’s humdrum utility boxes into colorful works of art— from vivid abstract and whimsical designs to images of the city’s raucous wild parrots, historic ostriches (the Cawston Ostrich Farm put the city on the map in the late 1800s), its bustling train station, and its place along iconic Route 66.
Tickets are $55 per person, or $100 per couple. (The event’s South Pasadena location will be given at the time of purchase.) Funds raised will help support the creation of public art in South Pasadena and SPARC’s art and cultural programs.
