Pasadena Unified Announces the Selection of Wilson Middle School Principal

Superintendent’s choice has a history of serving the community
Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Brian McDonald announced recently that he has named Kyle Douglas as Principal of Wilson Middle School, pending Board of Education approval. Douglas returns to PUSD where he began his teaching career after serving as dean, assistant principal, principal in the Inglewood, Temple City, and Alhambra school districts.
“As a former teacher at Marshall Fundamental and Rose City High School, an experienced educational leader, and the parent of a PUSD student, Kyle brings a unique and passionate commitment to the success of Wilson Middle School students,” said Superintendent McDonald. “I am pleased to welcome him back to Pasadena Unified to lead Wilson.”
Douglas created robust partnerships with community organizations such as the L.A. Clippers and Vision to Learn to provide vision screening and eyeglasses for every student in the Inglewood Unified School District. He has also developed competitive robotics, Teen Court, Law Academy, and Application Design Pathways during his career.
Douglas joins PUSD from the Inglewood Unified School District, where he was a principal since 2015. Previously, he was Assistant Principal in the Alhambra Unified School District from 2009 to 2012 and Dean of Activities in the Temple City Unified School District from 2007 to 2009. Douglas began his teaching career as a social studies teacher at Marshall Fundamental School and at Rose City High School from 1996 to 2007.
He also served as director of the Coleman-James Learning Center in Pasadena from 2004 through spring 2017, where he managed academic programming for school-aged youth in Community Arms and King’s Villages, large low-income housing developments in Pasadena.
“It is with great excitement that I return to Pasadena Unified School District,” said Douglas. “Along with the faculty, staff, parents, and community partners, we will work diligently to bring every child a thriving learning environment that gives them a chance to expand their learning opportunities, establishing Wilson Middle School as a beacon of education in the community.”
Douglas has a an Administrative Services Credential from UC Irvine, a Master’s in Education Administration from Point Loma Nazarene University, a Master’s in Human Resources, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University.
A resident of Pasadena, Douglas is a 10-year member of the San Gabriel Valley Boy Scouts Council, a member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses “White Suiter,” and member of the Altadena NAACP.
The selection process included panel interviews with teachers, parents, and staff. Douglas replaces Sarah Rudchenko, who was promoted earlier this fall to lead the district’s teacher and administrator academies.
