City Manager Oliver Chi has announced that Captain Alan Sanvictores will be appointed Chief of Police when the current Chief, Jim Hunt, retires next month. Sanvictores has been with the Monrovia Police department for 22 years, first as a recruit, moving up to Police Officer, then Agent, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and now Captain since 2010.

When asked how he felt about the promotion, Sanvictores said, “How do I feel? I feel extremely humbled and honored at the opportunity of serving this city and its police department and the Chief of Police. It is through the hard work and dedication of all the police officers and the support personnel that I feel it is possible for me to assume the role of Chief.

After being asked for a simple answer of what he wanted to do as Chief, Sanvictores said simply, “I am looking forward to continuing our mission of providing safety and service to the community, and continue to develop my relationship with the people of Monrovia.”

The current Chief praised Sanvictores saying “Alan has served as our senior Captain for nearly eight years. During that time, he has done just a phenomenal job of supporting the initiatives in the Monrovia Police Department, and he has displayed integrity, innovation, and leadership at the highest levels. I know that Alan will be a simply tremendous Police Chief for the community.

“We are so fortunate in Monrovia to have an individual of Alan’s character and ability to serve as our next Police Chief. In our organization, we operate in a mission driven and team based environment, and Alan’s approach is perfectly aligned with our core values of serving with humility, hunger, loyalty, and smarts. I am confident that Alan will continue building upon the legacy of success at the Monrovia Police Department as he steps into this new leadership role.”

During the years he has worked in the Police Department, Sanvictores has held many roles, including the Team Commander for the Foothill Special Enforcement Team, the Assistant Team Leader for the Monrovia Tactical Response Team, and as the Sergeant assigned to run Monrovia’s famed Community Activist Policing Bureau. Prior to joining Monrovia Police Department, he served in the United States Army.
