The LULAC institute and the Televisa foundation have presented a grant of $5000 to the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley through their WE Initiative: TECHNOLOchicas Lift Program. This donation will support the YWCA’s Girl’s Empowerment After-School Programs and will provide an enriching tech curriculum to the participants.

“We are honored to receive this grant and incorporate the LiFT program with our girl’s empowerment programming. This program will help us empower girls in our community to explore STEM learning and opportunities to pursue study and careers in science fields. With the help of LULAC Institute and Televisa, the YWCA can continue to provide valuable leadership development and education to young girls, and help them achieve their goals.” Executive Director Jessica Kubel said.

The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley prides itself in providing multidisciplinary STEM education to middle school girls in the Pasadena area. The Girls’ Empowerment After-School program brings in experts and program partners from a variety of disciplines to allow girls to explore their interests, expose them to new fields, and encourage their participation in STEM. This program spans the academic year and provides supplement to participants’ formal education expanding on well-known concepts and fueling a life-long love of learning.

The focus of the TECHNOLOchicas LiFT Program is to provide hands on computer science training for middle school girls in the Hispanic community, specifically coding, program design and robotics. Participants will be able to attain technological skills that will be invaluable in their studies, career, and creative endeavors.
The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, community organization dedicated to upholding its mission of eliminating racism and empowering women through youth development, social justice advocacy and career development.
