Clifton Middle School will celebrate the completion of a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) lab equipped with state-of-the-art learning tools and technologies, including a laser cutter and four 3-D printers.

Thanks to the Northrop Grumman Foundation and the support of the community, Clifton was one of five schools across the nation to win the Fab School Labs contest, receiving a grant of $100,000 to provide a rigorous classroom environment that will prepare students for high-demand careers. The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. at the Clifton Middle School, Room 22 (226 S. Ivy Ave., Monrovia, CA 91016).

Clifton Middle School students will be immersed in a rigorous STEM learning environment with access to state-of-the-art technologies and programs used in today’s industries.

Sixth-graders will learn the history of innovation throughout the year and participate in projects to flex their creative skills. They will learn how items are invented, design a product or concept, and improve their efforts as needed with feedback.

Students in seventh and eighth grades will learn how to craft flying objects through an aerodynamics curriculum, which leads to launching rockets. These students will also learn how to code, use computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software, and create projects through their 3-D printer and laser cutter.

Clifton students can also apply the skills and knowledge they’ve adopted through their STEM education to the school’s internationally ranked robotics team.
