In a press release issued Aug.30, Pasadena’s Public Information Officer William Boyer issued an updated report about the felled tree that injured three children

Shortly before noon, Aug. 29, 2017, at 1259 Linda Vista Street, a large limb from a eucalyptus tree fell and critically injured a two-year-old girl who was attending a nearby private preschool center. Pasadena Fire and police were on scene within minutes to assist those affected.

It is not known why the limb fell and the incident remains under investigation.

The tree is on property that was a former public school. The property continues to be owned by the Pasadena Unified School District, but a portion of it, including where the tree is located, has been used by the City for the past several years as a neighborhood park under a joint-use agreement with the school district. Part of the school property that is adjacent to the park is being used for the private preschool.

The park is currently closed and there is no time estimate yet for when it will reopen.

The City has no further details on the girl’s condition that can be shared due to patient health disclosure restrictions. City officials have expressed sincere concern for her health and full recovery. The City remains committed to ensuring the public’s safety as a top priority.

Any additional updates will be issued as appropriate.

One child has been reported critically injured

A 2-year-old girl is improving slightly after being hit by a falling Eucalyptus tree at a Pasadena DayCare Center on Tuesday around noon, according to Pasadena Fire spokeswoman.

Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said the 2-year-old girl was trapped under the branch and suffered initial critical injuries. Two other children, ages 3 and 4, were also hurt slightly.  All were transported to Huntington Hospital.

The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Linda Vista Avenue, at Linda Vista Children’s Center, Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department told KTLA-TV shortly after noon. She described the facility as a private daycare-type place on city-owned property.

Derderian said the 20-foot branch hit a fence and fell on the children.
