
On July 4, 2017, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Pasadena Police patrol officers responded to the 100 block of South Arroyo Parkway regarding an unconscious adult male down on the sidewalk. Officers arrived on scene to find the unresponsive victim had sustained injuries to the face and head. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported the victim to a local hospital. The condition of the victim was later elevated to critical, suffering from bi-lateral facial fractures.
The police investigation revealed the victim had been physically assaulted and rendered unconscious. Investigative efforts resulted in detectives locating independent witnesses who provided details of the assault and information leading to the identity of the suspect, identified as Sean Smith, 30 year old male, resident of Oakland, CA.
On Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for review. An arrest warrant was issued for Sean Smith charging him with one count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, and one count of battery with serious bodily injury. Bail was set at $80,000.00.
On Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, suspect Smith, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to the custody of the Pasadena Police Department. Suspect Smith was booked for the listed charges. He posted bond with an arraignment date set for Sept. 29, 2017.
