The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) was honored to receive two Excellence in Communications Awards from the California Schools Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) at the 2017 CalSPRA Annual Seminar in Sacramento. For more than 45 years, PEF has been committed to building dynamic community partnerships to support the public schools of Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre. PEF was recognized for the Summer Times Newsletter and for the Rock 4 PEF marketing campaign.

“Our school communication professionals are leaders in their organizations, working hard every day to connect stakeholders to their systems, to build and maintain trust in schools and to improve the lives of kids through support and understanding for public education,” said CalSPRA President Music Watson. “This year’s award winners represent the best of that work.”

Summer Times – Newsletter

A weekly email newsletter sent to parents with children in the five-week PEF Summer Enrichment Program. The newsletter features photos and activities from each of the five Pasadena-area campuses highlighting the summertime fun and learning that has been the hallmark of the summer program for 14 years.

Rock 4 PEF – Marketing Campaign

With support from Pasadena’s vibrant arts and music community and local businesses, Rock 4 PEF built awareness and raised funds for music education programs in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) through a series of concerts including a Battle of the Bands featuring teenagers from throughout the community. 55 student musicians performed before an audience of more than 700 people at Levitt Pavilion Pasadena. Prior to the performance an online voting campaign, that counted more than 4,000 votes, engaged people in selecting the finalist bands.

“Every day we are inspired by the creativity and innovation we see in PUSD and are proud of the work we do to connect and engage our community with our public schools,” said PEF Executive Director Patrick Conyers. “We are honored to receive this recognition for our work.”

There were 61 entries in this year’s CalSPRA Awards program. Awards were judged by a panel of 10 veteran communication professionals from throughout California, representing the California Association of Public Information Officers; the Public Relations Society of America, education, corporate public relations, government and more.
