During the past week, City staff had an opportunity to connect with their contacts at Metro to discuss the parking fees that they plan on implementing for anyone parking in the Gold Line Parking Structure.

During these discussions with Metro staff, City staff shared the negative feedback they had received from Monrovians.

Metro representatives informed Monrovia staff that at this point in time, the new parking fees will be going into place effective June 26, 2017.  The fee will be $3 per day, or $59 per month, and they will instituting the fee at the Azusa, Irwindale and Monrovia parking structures.

Metro further shared with the City that the parking fees were established at the busiest parking facilities along the Gold Line extension, and that in their experience, when the fees are instituted, they see parking demand drop to a point where the parking structures are able to retain around 10 percent of the spaces available for use.

Also, the Metro team shared that free parking will remain intact at many parking lots on the Gold Line system, including the Sierra Madre Villa Station, Arcadia Station and Duarte Station.

Representatives from Metro also informed the City that people will have several different ways in which to pay the fee.  First, Metro will be installing automated pay systems at the Monrovia Gold Line parking structure, where riders can pay using either a valid TAP card, or with cash or credit cards.

In addition, Metro reps said that they have developed a smartphone app through which transit riders can pay the parking fee (Apple: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/park-metro/id1227765815?mt=8 // Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.passportparking.mobile.lametro).

For any questions about this matter, Metro has asked that individuals visit their website at www.metro.net/parking.  Also, please feel free to let City staff know of any other questions that the City might be able to address regarding this topic moving forward.
