Pasadena Police Blotters: June 18 – June 24

June 18

At about 3:40 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to a hit and run investigation near Lake Avenue and Villa Street. On arrival, officers learned that the victim was walking west on the north sidewalk of Villa Street when he was struck by a motorist and the driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene. PPD officers saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle near Altadena Drive and Colorado Boulevard. When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver failed to yield. The driver of the suspect vehicle was able to evade the officers and was last seen in the 3100 block of Colorado Boulevard. A short time later, PPD officers located the car abandoned, in the 200 block of South Rosemead Boulevard. On June 19, the owner of the vehicle used in the hit & run collision walked into police headquarters. He attempted to report that his car had been stolen. The subsequent investigation determined that the registered owner of the car was driving it at the time of the collision. The driver was arrested without incident.

June 19

On April 14, Pasadena Police officers investigated a child endangerment incident in the 100 block of Esther Street. Officer learned that the suspect (Francisco Mayo) was with his girlfriend and became upset with her six-year-old son. Mayo allegedly retrieved an object and struck the child. The victim’s mother attempted to stop the attack; however, Mayo struck her as well. The incident was documented on a police report and the case was assigned to Detective Locklin. Detective Locklin completed his investigation and informed field personnel that Mayo was the primary suspect in the child endangerment case. On June 19, Pasadena Police Officers Gawlik, Herrera, Orosco, and Woiwodi responded to the victim’s residence and saw Mayo. He was arrested without incident and booked at the Pasadena jail.

June 20

At approximately 12:15 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to a death investigation in the 300 block of Mentor Avenue (Cal Tech). On arrival, officers were directed to the victim, a lifeless male, 20s, in his residence. The victim (a student) is from South Korea and was last seen on or about June 2, 2017. Police officers and detectives were on scene. Cal Tech Administrative personnel are aware of the investigation and notification was made to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. There are no apparent signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances at this point. Our investigation is ongoing.

June 22

At about 11:25 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the area of Montana Street and Raymond Avenue regarding a call of shots fired. On arrival, officers located the victim, a male adult, suffering from a GSW to the leg. He did not provide much information about the shooting; however, he described the suspect as a male: black, light skin, wearing a hoodie. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Our investigation is ongoing.

June 23

At about 2:44 p.m., the Pasadena Police Department’s Communication Center received a call of a female standing over the safety railing on the Colorado Street Bridge. Moments later, the police department received another call stating the subject (female, Lakewood resident) jumped from the bridge. On arrival, officers located the lifeless victim below the bridge. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.

On June 23, the Pasadena Police Department received information about suspicious postings on social media. A subject posted information suggesting he intended to “explode a bomb” at the Allen Gold Line Station. The police department worked closely with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and subsequently identified the person who posted the threats. The suspect was later arrested without incident and officials served a search warrant at his residence. The investigation is ongoing. Special thanks goes out to the community member who alerted law enforcement.

June 24

At about 12:45 a.m., Pasadena police officers responded to the 2200 block of Loma Vista Street regarding a juvenile armed with a knife. When officers arrived, they found that the juvenile had forced her mother out of the house at knife point and then barricaded herself inside the home. The officers developed a plan to enter the home safely and contacted the juvenile. After about an hour of negotiating with the juvenile, she was detained without incident. She was taken to a local hospital for mental health evaluation.
