Hold These Truths (May 30 @ 8p.m., 39 South El Molino Ave.) tells the inspirational true story of civil rights hero Gordon Hirabayashi who took his fight all the way to the Supreme Court. An exceptional evening of theatrical storytelling, Ryun Yu’s brilliant solo performance has captivated audiences and sold-out shows from coast-to coast. Written by Jeanne Sakata, the play is directed by Jessica Kubzansky and stars Yu. “Holds These Truths” begins performances on Tuesday May 30, and will play through Sunday, June 25, with the official press opening on Sunday, June 4. Performance schedule is Tuesday – Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets range from $25 – $115. Running time is 90 minutes. Pasadena Playhouse announced playhouse talks post-show engagement activities after every performance of “Hold These Truths”, as part of Pasadena Playhouse’s mission as the state theater of California to bring people together to facilitate open and productive conversations with neighbors, friends and community. California Connections Academy Free Information Session (May 31 @ 6:30 p.m., 2924 W. Huntington Drive, Monrovia) California Connections Academy @ Capistrano is authorized under state law by the Capistrano Unified School District and is available to students in grades K-12 who reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. The information session will provide families with an opportunity to meet with a California Connections Academy teacher, thoroughly explore the school’s program and curriculum, and learn about the enrollment process. Other topics covered include: how teachers interact with students in the virtual environment, personalized learning opportunities including options for accelerated learning and gifted programs, college preparation, socialization, the role of the parent or other Learning Coach, and the use of technology.
