Seniors ages 50 and older will connect with others, gain new perspectives, increase their knowledge, get energized and more at the free 2017 Pasadena Conference on Healthy Aging on Saturday, April 22, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.

Helen Dennis, a nationally recognized expert on issues related to aging, will open the conference with a keynote address titled “The Retirement Revolution.” She writes about successful aging for several daily newspapers in the greater Los Angeles area, co-authored the 2008 New York Times bestseller “Project Renewment: The First Retirement Model for Career Women” and was named by PBS’s “Next Avenue” as one of the 50 most influential leaders in aging for 2016. Her firm, Helen Dennis & Associates, specializes in retirement issues and ageism in employment.

The Pasadena Conference on Healthy Aging will feature a full slate of workshops focused on common interests and concerns among seniors of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

“We are committed to creating opportunities for older adults to enhance their knowledge and improve the quality of their lives,” said Akila Gibbs, executive director of the Pasadena Senior Center. “People who come to the Pasadena Conference on Healthy Aging know very well that aging is not a problem that needs to be fixed. Instead, healthy aging means being empowered to live active, productive and meaningful lives.”

Workshop topics will include hearing loss after years of rock concerts, boosting your brain power, Southern California housing options, estate planning for baby boomers, managing clutter, reverse mortgages, Social Security and Medicare updates, stress management, protecting yourself from scams, disaster preparedness, exploring Pasadena and beyond with public transportation, and more.

Free health and fitness workshops will be offered as well as demonstrations of tai chi, Zumba Gold and yoga. The Kaiser Permanente mobile health vehicle will be available for free wellness screenings for biometrics (risk assessment for chronic conditions), blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and glucose.

While there is no cost to attend the conference, registration is required. Visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call (877)-236-9459. A complimentary lunch will be provided to each registered guest.
