Norooz will no longer be celebrated in Pasadena, but there will still be celebrations across the Greater Los Angeles area. – Photo by Terry Miller

After a decade of devotion, Dr. Nazee Rofagha will no longer be hosting a Pasadena Norooz

Norooz (Iranian New Year) has been officially celebrated in Pasadena, California for a decade thanks to the tireless effort of one astonishing Pasadena woman who truly believes in the culture of Iran and the importance of the spring celebration that is known as Norooz.

This event was initiated by Dr. Nazee Rofagha, a local Chiropractic Physician in Pasadena back in March 2007.

Former Mayor Bill Bogaard, was one of the main supporters of this beautiful ancient traditional cultural celebration along with many of the city officials and city councilmembers.

Norooz is the celebration of the rebirth of the earth. Iranians have been celebrating it at the turn on the Spring season, at the Vernal Equinox, when the day and night are equal in length.

The celebration had expanded exponentially over the past ten years, and it all happened with the effort of only one person who was passionately in love of introducing the culture to Pasadena.s

For all these years, this event was open to public with no charge, all these years the program had the same theme. There was an expert scholar in Iranian History, live dance and traditional musical performances, as well as an extraordinary tea house with lots of Iranian food

We spoke to Dr. Nazee, who she said she has enjoyed planning the celebration for all these years, but it has been very difficult to plan it single handedly, so she is also very thankful to have the help of many volunteers during this Journey.

As is life, all good things must pass and it is time for Dr. Nazee to move on to other matters close to her heart.

This newspaper has endorsed at supported Nooruz from its inception and we’ll miss the tradition so richly presented by Dr. Nazee.

She stated that her main sponsors made the event possible: Wells Fargo, Us Bank, Union Bank, Southern California Gas Company, At&t, Macy’s , Edison, Jacob Maarse, and many more too numerous to mention here.

We at Beacon Media wish Dr. Nazee continued success in her Chiropractic practice and other future endeavors. It has been an honor to work with Dr. Nazee and a tremendous learning experience for us as well as the citizens of Pasadena.

Dr. Nazee will be holding other cultural events throughout the year.  Anyone interested us encourage to go to .. www.noroozpasadena.org
