March 4
At about 10:08 a.m., Pasadena Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Los Robles Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard after observing the driver commit a CVC violation. Following the traffic stop, the driver (Ronald Hopkins, 27 years, Pasadena resident) immediately exited the car and fled on foot, clearly attempting to evade the officers. PPD officers quickly contained the area with the assistance of a police helicopter. Following an extensive search lasting several hours, PPD officers located Hopkins and arrested him without incident. A subsequent search of Hopkins’ vehicle revealed that he was in possession of two firearms. Hopkins was transported to the Pasadena Jail and booked.
At about 12:50 p.m., Pasadena Police officers investigated an ADW in the 1300 block of North El Molino Avenue. Officers determined that he suspect (Pablo Rodriquez, 28 years, Pasadena resident) was fighting with his girlfriend. A friend (the victim) attempted to separate the two combatants and was hit with a baseball bat. The suspect was arrested without incident and booked at the Pasadena Jail.
March 11
At about 9:49 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to Montana Street just west of Fair Oaks Avenue regarding shots fired. On arrival, officers found a male who was suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Although there were a lot of people in the area at the time of the shooting, many were uncooperative with investigating officers. PPD detectives responded to the incident and they are investigating the homicide. March 12
At about 8:25 a.m., Pasadena Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the 1400 block of Linda Ridge Road regarding a report of a female not breathing. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The subsequent investigation revealed that the victim suffered from mental illness, and she had been talking about taking her own life. Officers found a suicide note left by the victim, who consumed a large amount of prescription medication.
March 15
On October 13, 2016, Michael Diggs went into the CVS Pharmacy in the 700 block of South Arroyo Parkway and removed items valued at $31.49. Diggs walked out of the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise he selected. He was detained by a store employee; however he (Diggs) attacked the clerk and the clerk required surgery to mend the injuries sustained during the attack. Diggs fled CVS without further violence and the incident was documented on a police crime report. A want flyer was completed and the case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for criminal filing consideration. Diggs was subsequently arrested and on March 15, he (Diggs) pled guilty. Diggs received a 23-year prison sentence and another strike (Diggs already had two strikes).
March 16
At about 9:55 p.m., Pasadena Police officers stopped a motorist near North Catalina Avenue and Washington Boulevard. Officers contacted the driver and during their field investigation, determined that he was in possession of a firearm. The suspect was arrested without incident and the firearm was recovered. The suspect was later transported to the Pasadena Jail and booked.
At about 5:18 p.m., a female walked up to the Pasadena Police Department, just outside the front entrance. The subject said she was armed with a gun and wanted to kill herself. The female then walked to Garfield Avenue (right in front of the police department) where she was contacted by police officers. Not wanting to provoke the subject, PPD officers maintained a safe distance while attempting to negotiate with her. CNT personnel communicated with the female subject for more than 90 minutes. A tactical plan was developed and executed, allowing PPD offices to detain the subject following the use of less-lethal resources. The female was later taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. PPD officers later determined that she was not in possession of a firearm.
March 17
At about 10:06 p.m. Pasadena Police officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 300 block of Mira Vista Terrace. On arrival, officers learn the suspect(s) broke a glass sliding door to enter the dwelling. The suspect(s) ransacked some of the rooms and subsequently entered the master bedroom where the victim was sleeping. PPD officers checked the area; however, they were not able to locate the suspect(s). Our investigation is ongoing.
March 18
At 9:27 a.m. Pasadena Police officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Section (SDES) were providing extra service in 700 block of East Washington Blvd after a fight had erupted. When officers tried to contact the suspect (Dejon Ogletree, 24 years, Pasadena Resident), he ran south into Washington Park. As the SES officers chased after Ogletree they clearly observed him throwing an object on to the ground. Officers subsequently detained Ogletree without incident and recovered a firearm in the area where the item was discarded. Ogletree was transported to the Pasadena jail and booked for a no bail warrant and felon in possession of a gun.
At 8:34 p.m. Pasadena Police officers were dispatched to a report of males fighting. On arrival, officers located two victims were suffering from stab wounds. One victim was treated at the crime scene and the other was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. The suspect, Alejandro Dumnick, 46 years, Pasadena Resident, was located nearby, arrested without incident, and booked at the Pasadena jail.
