Monrovia Cub Scout Pack 66 honored four young Webelos Scouts Feb. 18 by awarding 2 of them Cub Scouting’s highest award and rank; the Arrow of Light and bridging them all over to Boy Scouts. The Arrow of Light is second only to the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout rank award; therefore Pack 66 holds such a sacred ceremony to honor those who have completed all the rank requirements.

The ceremony was opened with Joshua S. leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Cub Master Mark Peters with the Invocation.

Taking a walk across a bridge has never meant as much to four local Boy Scouts as the short trek in which they participated in last week at their Arrow of Light and Bridging Ceremony held at Monrovia’s own Kirkorian Movie Theater. It was a walk they will remember for many years to come. Crossing that bridge earned them a promotion from Cub Scout Webelos to the rank of Boy Scouts; and the opportunity to seek and work for the coveted Eagle Scout award, the highest honor available to a Boy Scout. Crossing the ceremonial bridge also earned two of the Cub Scouts, Joshua S. and Degas P., the Arrow of Light award as part of the graduation time after completing the Cub Scout trail. Two members of the group started in Tiger Cubs and completed the trail in Webelos. The bridging quartet included Miles K., Christopher H., Joshua S. and Degas P.

Pack 66 also honored a fallen scouter and Monrovia Camp Trask Camp Master Victorie Johnson-Milkoff, with a Broken Arrow Ceremony by Dave Sargent from the Order of the Arrow opening with Amazing Grace played by Monrovia’s own Todd Witt on the Bagpipes. With decades of commitment and service at Camp Trask she will be missed by all.

Mr. Dave Sargent from The Order of the Arrow (OA), which is also most commonly known as the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) created to honor Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law. It themes American-Indian styled traditions and ceremonies to bestow recognition on Scouts selected by their peers as best exemplifying the ideals of Scouting. Mr. Sargent was the Master of Ceremonies and was assisted by Boy Scout Michael Cthemtodia of Duarte Troop 185 who was the Chief of Ceremonies and assisting with the Indian drums was Alexander Gallivan of Duarte Troop 185, both Boy Scouts are Arrowmen.

The four Webelos were accepted into two Boy Scout Troops, Scout Masters Ed Stegman of Duarte Troop 185 and Anthony Chang of Arcadia Troop 111 were present to receive the new Scouts into their Troops. God Speed, gentlemen on your new journey.

Pack 66 has a boy-first approach and we are sibling-friendly. A lot of things go on in our lives, but we make sure we are there for the family and whatever their needs are. If there are three or four kids, all of them are invited to the activities. It’s not like any other organization, the Scouts learn to be leaders. We encourage inclthemiveness in our Pack, we involve the local Girl Scouts to participate in our events as it is important to show unit as we are all part of the “Scouting” family.

Pack 66 would like to give special thanks Ted Goldbeck, General Manager & Director of IT at Monrovia Kirkorian for allowing Pack 66 to hold this very special ceremony at the theater, as well as to the four Cub Scout leaders who performed the 4 Winds Ceremony: Awards Chair Peter Vierheilig, Assistant Cub Master Regina Bradley, Outings Chair and Wolf Den Leader Mitch Rily and Charter Org. Rep. Danny Preciado.
