
Feb. 12
On Jan. 11, suspects Oscar Trevino and Oscar Trevino III (Hispanic males, Pasadena residents) robbed a victim in the 1000 block of North Michigan Avenue. The suspects approached the victim, presented a knife, and ordered him to surrender his property. The suspects fled the area in a vehicle and crashed a few blocks away. They made good their escape; however, they were positively identified by the victim. The case was assigned to Pasadena Police Detective Riley, who immediately began his comprehensive investigation. Detective Riley confirmed the suspect’s identity and passed along the information to other department enforcement units. On Feb. 12, at about 10:28 p.m., Pasadena Police Officers White and Woolford were on patrol near Los Robles Avenue and Mountain Street and stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. The officers approached the vehicle and immediately identified the driver (Trevino III) as one of the armed robbery suspects. He was arrested without incident after complying with the officer’s order to surrender. The suspect was booked at the Pasadena jail. The investigation is ongoing.
Feb. 13
At about 3:30 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to a family disturbance in the 1200 block of Medford Avenue. While responding to the location, officers were informed that the disturbance involved a distraught 68 year-old, White male. The caller also informed the police that the subject was armed. On arrival, PPD officers saw a male standing outside the front of the residence. He subsequently retreated to the back yard, and without warning or provocation, the male suddenly fired several rounds. The officers attempted to order the subject to surrender; however, he retreated in to the dwelling and barricaded himself. With the assistance of the police helicopter, patrol officers quickly contained the area and evacuated nearby neighbors. Crisis Negotiators (CNT) and SWAT personnel were notified. CNT personnel contacted the suspect and he threatened to shoot any police personnel who approached his home. After approximately 4 and a half hours, CNT personnel were able to convince the suspect to surrender. He was subsequently arrested without incident.
Incidents like the one on Medford Avenue are infrequent; however, they involve a high degree of risk, are very dangerous, evolve rapidly, and are labor/resource intensive. In addition to the City Manager, the following emergency response personnel were involved:
Pasadena Police Department (60+, including the police chief and executive staff)
Pasadena Fire Department (7 personnel)
Glendale Police Department (5 personnel)
Foothill Transit (1 bus driver. The bus was used as a temporary staging area for the evacuees)
American Red Cross
After the incident had concluded, officers seized five firearms and a cache of ammunition.
Feb. 14
Pasadena Police officers responded to the 900 block of north Hill Avenue regarding a large tree that had fallen. Pasadena Fire was also on scene. In the late afternoon, according to residents, the tree fell, crushing a vehicle and damaging some property. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Feb. 15
At about 1:34 p.m., Pasadena Police officers investigated a robbery in the 700 block of North Lake Avenue. Officers learned that the victim was seated inside a fast food restaurant when he was approached by the suspect (Black male, 50s). The suspect demanded money from the victim, but the victim refused to surrender his cash. The suspect took a fighting stance and restated his demands. Fearing for his safety, the victim complied with the demands. The suspect then fled the area. Our investigation is ongoing.
Feb. 16
On Jan. 9, Randy Broadnax (Black male, 5’ 4,” 170 lbs., Pasadena resident) and two other local gang members were arrested for possession of five guns near the Kings Villages apartment complex. Broadnax posted bond within hours of his arrest and was released. PPD officers later learned that Broadnax was not on probation. After learning that Broadnax had been arrest for the weapons (guns) violation, the Probation Office issued a no bail-warrant. On Feb. 16, FAU Detectives developed information that Broadnax was staying in Upland. FAU detectives went to Upland and saw Broadnax. He complied with the detectives’ orders to surrender and was arrested without incident.
Feb. 17
At about 6:43 a.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 100 block of South Daisy Avenue regarding a disturbance. First responders arrived quickly and talked with the victim (Hispanic female, 42, Pasadena resident) who reported that she was at home with her five-year-old child when she heard a knock at the front door. Without warning or provocation, the victim was attacked by the suspect (Black male, 46, homeless) when she answered the door. The suspect forced his way into the residence and continued his assault. The victim escaped (with her child) and called 9-1-1. The location was contained with the assistance of the police helicopter and the suspect was arrested without incident. The victim sustained an injury to the forehead and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The child was not injured. The suspect was booked at the PPD jail for kidnapping, burglary, and assault.
