The moviegoing experience has been altered following recent renovations to the AMC Universal Cinema at the Universal Citywalk.

At a standard theater, patrons can expect to wait in long lines for popcorn, watch their movie on a dimly lit screen, and, sadly, suffer from a lack of booze – the new Universal Cinema aims toUniversal Cinema solve all of these problems.

Standard digital film projectors are located above the screen and project at a downward angle. Renovations across the 18 auditoriums lowered the projectors, providing a better angle for the sharp images coming from the Christie RGB laser projectors. Gone are the days of complaining about dark 3D images, as 11 of their screens are prepped and ready for the third dimension.

The theater walls themselves are now draped in black curtains to provide a suitably dark atmosphere, allowing moviegoers to immerse themselves in the film. All of the theater seats are plush recliners, providing the ultimate in comfort.

The typical theater concessions stand has been reimagined as well. Film fans can enjoy the ease of the AMC Marketplace: popcorn, sodas, candy, and ice cream are available in a grab-and-go, self service style for faster check-out.

On the second floor of the Universal Cinema, patrons will be able to drink from a full-service bar under a mural based on the Universal logo at the Director’s Lounge. Specialty cocktails are being concocted for various upcoming films including Dark Temptation, a take on the vodka cranberry in honor of Fifty Shades Darker. Guests will also be able to take their alcoholic beverages into any second-level theater.

Finally, the lobby and hallways have been remade and redecorated with comfort in mind. Plenty of seating allows moviegoers to relax before and after watching the newest sequel or reboot and movie memorabilia are on display in specially designed display cases.
Universal CityWalk’s AMC Universal Cinema is shaping up to be the next theater for locals to call home.
